The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin book review

N.K. Jemisin is one of those author names that I think a lot of fantasy fans are beginning to really respect. Quite some time ago I did read The Fifth Season, it was before I started this blog so there's no review of it on here but I do remember really enjoying it and being really impressed by it. Golden Son by Pierce Brown book review

Golden Son by Pierce Brown book review

Book reviews, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Golden Son is the second book in the Red Rising series which tells the story of a young man who belongs to the "Reds" who are the lowest tier of society and his attempts to infiltrate the "Golds" (the top) to then try and overthrow them. If you haven't yet read by review of Red Rising, make sure you read my review of that and then you can continue reading below as I don't want to spoil anything. After the events of the first book, I was hyped, I was pumped and ready for the sequel to take things to another level. I'd heard Golden Son was far superior and when the series was taken to another level. However, I just don't know if I could agree with this. Note…

Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard book review

Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard book review

Book reviews, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Battlefield Earth is quite the epic. Not only is it over 1,000 pages filled with lots of characters but the audiobook version I was kindly gifted was over 45 hours, which even at 2x speed was quite the time consumption. Was it worth my time and, more importantly, would it be worth yours? Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Supersize Island by J.J. Walsh book review

Book reviews, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Supersize Island by J.J. Walsh is a book that was kindly sent to me by the people at Social Deviant. It came in a really cool package - it came in an American fast food to-go bag along with some other Supersize Island goodies such as a rubber burger, a 'beware of the squirrel' sign and some other little bits. But what is Supersize Island about? Please note that this article contains affiliate links. Foundation by Isaac Asimov book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
Recently I've been on a huge science fiction kick, something I noted in my ReInception review. Therefore, when I was doing my research into what some of the best science fiction novels are, Asmimov's name kept popping up and his Foundation series kept popping up the most often. In fact, I think somewhere I read it referred to as "the best science fiction series of all time" which is quite some praise. Therefore, I thought "Perfect, this should scratch my itch!" But did it? A couple of weeks ago I was on a massive science fiction high, I was watching Silo on TV, reading about some Warhammer stuff coming out (not a big fan but seeing if it's something worth getting into) and so reading ReInception felt the perfect fit for me and I would say it very much scratched my itch! Wool by Hugh Howey book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
I'm not sure I've received such a positive response to a book as when I posted about Wool on my Twitter the other week. I posted out asking whether it was a book that was worth picking up as the new TV series was coming out soon. Hugh Howey, the author did retweet the post himself and so I imagine the majority of responses came from his fans but even so, it was such an overwhelmingly positive response, I knew I had to pick it up ASAP. And I'm glad I did! Atlas and the Multiverse by Chandon Siman book review

Atlas and the Multiverse by Chandon Siman book review

Book reviews, Sci-Fi
Atlas and the Multiverse was a book kindly sent to me by the author at the request that I review it. The front cover intrigued me and the premise intrigued me: a young boy and his friends find and venture into the multiverse to save all of the universes. I love these sorts of things. Atlas and the Multiverse is the first book by debut author Chandon Siman. It is a middle-grade/young adult novel set in modern times based around three kids. The main character is Atlas (obviously), a fostered boy who begins to hear voices one day in school before having a vision of a man claiming to be his father. Atlas and the Multiverse plot - 4/5 Atlas and the Multiverse follows Atlas and his brother and sister,…
