These are the best Fantasy books according to Twitter

Features, Recommendations
He's back once again using the content from others' tweets as content for his blog posts! Well, you seemed to like the other posts where my Twitter followers recommended content so why not keep posting them? Often on Twitter, I will tweet out a question to the Twitter masses in hopes that I'll get some book recommendations and then now and then these questions will end up getting a heck of a lot of responses. I'm on a bit of a fantasy hype at the moment so I decided to put out the following question: https://twitter.com/Lukesblog1/status/1514883265999613953 Using Twitter's improved embedding feature, you can actually see the number of responses live now. As it stands as of writing this, there are just over 100 responses to this of what people consider…

Book review of Illborn by Daniel T. Jackson

Book review of Illborn by Daniel T. Jackson

Book reviews
Illborn by Daniel T Jackson was bought for me at Christmas at a perfect time for when I was ready for a brand new epic fantasy series to get into. I'd seen a lot of positive things online and decided to follow Jackson on Instagram which resulted in me seeing plenty more positive things. It currently has a 4.36 rating on Goodreads after nearly 500 ratings, so I think we can call that universally positive. But did I think it was any good? I’ve read 7 of the top 10 Most-Read Books from 2021 – Here’s what I thought

Features
Whilst doing my usual nerdy googling of best books to read at the moment, I came across an article Goodreads posted at the end of last year on their most-read books of the year. I had a look through the list of 23 books and realised that I've seven of the top ten books. You'd also be surprised by the fact that not all of these books are modern books either - there are some classics on there. Part of my mission last year was to do a bit of catching up. After finding the likes of Bookstagram and Book Twitter, I found a lot more books that people considered "must-reads" that I picked up that I wouldn't have possibly read if I hadn't started blogging and joined these social…

My 5 Most Read Blog Posts from March 2022

My 5 Most Read Blog Posts from March 2022

Features, Monthly Round Ups
At the start of each month, I highlight the best performing posts from the previous month. I only include articles I actually posted throughout that month and they're written in order. I don't do this to brag, it is to highlight what posts work well and which possibly don't for those prospective bloggers. Here are the most successful blog posts from the month of March 2022. March was a great month for my blog as I wrote some fairly different and interesting articles, highlighting some new content for people to read. As I come to the realisation that the content people come to my blog for is mostly about books. So I've started a new series of content where I highlight some of the best books I've asked people to…

My March 2022 Reading Round-up

My March 2022 Reading Round-up

Features, Monthly Round Ups
March was a great month for books - I read a diverse selection which saw me pick up only my second five-star read of the year which was good as I feel like this year has been slightly weak for great reads for me so far. She appears to write brilliant stories that cover real-life problems in a way that show…

Back halfway through March, Goodreads released a list of the most anticipated based on what their users had given early reviews of and which books had been put down as "Want To Read". Book review of Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Book review of Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Book reviews, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Insurgent carries on the story that Veronica Roth started with Divergent. It's a story in which once well-established factions that defined who you would become as a person have disbanded and the lines between these differing peoples is blurring as secrets come out about the people much higher up and the fact that the world may not be all it seems. Please note that this article contains affiliate links. What this means if that if you choose to purchase any products via any of the links in this article, I will receive a small commission at no extra to you to support the blog. The Best Time Travel Books as Recommended by Reddit

Features
If you're not aware of Reddit or just think it's a place for nerds to talk about World of Warcraft then you're really missing out. Recently I found the incredible subreddit /r/suggestmeabook, and quite frankly, it's my new favourite place to get book recommendations. Pin me to Pinterest! /r/suggestmeabook is a feed on Reddit where anybody can put in a request for a book recommendation along any line. If you've just read a great series and want something similar, this is a great place to pose that question; if you want to get into a certain author but don't know where to start, you can get a suggestion; or if you just have a hankering for a very specific storyline, you can ask away in this subreddit also. One of…

Are Twitter Book Communities Actually Any Good?

Are Twitter Book Communities Actually Any Good?

Features
I was recently invited to a Twitter Community for lovers of Books. Currently, there are about 1,000 of us in this community. Twitter states that "Twitter Communities were created to give people a dedicated place to connect, share, and get closer to the discussions they care about most." But is being in a Book Community as good as it sounds? Pin me to Pinterest! Everybody reading this likely has some sort of affection towards reading or books themselves (I don't know, maybe you just like to sniff them.) Therefore, the idea that Twitter has created these areas on their social media channel which are dedicated to talking solely about books is really exciting, right? Well, yes mostly. Except for a few major flaws. And here they are: Flaws You Don't…

Book review of The Outsider by Albert Camus

Book review of The Outsider by Albert Camus

Book reviews, Classics
I was lent The Outsider by a friend who said it was a book he was interested to hear my thoughts on. It's a book that tells a very simple tale of a man who is arrested after committing a murder and the interesting discussions to be had from the hearing that subsequently takes place. The Outsider follows Meursault in Algeria as he navigates life after his mother's death and subsequent funeral and then the murder of an Arab man in French Algiers who was involved in a conflict already with one of his neighbours. He is arrested, taken to prison and then we follow his brief journey with prison and the court hearing. The Outsider plot - 4/5 The Outsider, as written above, covers the story of Meursault who…
